Hemp Seeds

I might as well begin this post by saying; No, Jewel Bars do not contain THC.  So for those of you who are drug tested at work or just choose to not partake in drugs, you would have to eat 5 lbs. of hempseeds a day to get even the slightest effect of the 2 parts per million contents of THC. Sorry… The only high you’ll get from Jewel Bars is based on its nutrition punch and the added PFM that I sprinkle on top!

The hardiness and nutritional power of hemp seeds could significantly address the planets protein & starvation problems.  Hemp seeds contain 35% protein (that’s a lot of protein for a little seed), 12% carbohydrate and 47% fat. Hemp seeds contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary to maintain a healthy body. No other single plant source has as many amino acids in such an easily digestible form.  And as our exposure to artificial chemicals, pesticides and radioactive materials increase, more and more people are choosing a plant based diet as apposed to animal products such as meat, large ocean fish and dairy that are high on the chain where toxins accumulate.   I of course still feast at least once a month on a juicy grass feed organic buffalo burger grilled in the backyard.  I also have a Jewel Bar everyday that is packed full of protein but haven’t moved away from animal protein. I do however seek humane and organic when consumed.

Raw hemp seeds with all of their life-force energy and enzymes intact are one of nature’s richest sources of protein. They have 3 times the vitamin E and 9 times as many fatty acids as flax seeds. They have brain building and liver supporting lecithin and high amounts of chlorophyll.  And, hemp seeds excel at absorbing minerals from the soil so it’s an excellent source of major and trace minerals.

But don’t just follow my lead, do a bit of your own research, try their delicious and nutty flavor and then add a few tablespoons to your daily salad or smoothie. Or better yet, order a box of your favorite Jewel Bars today!

Goji Berries 101

I try to keep my blogs short, sweet and to the point but when it comes to the Fountain of Youth Goji Berries that may be impossible.  Besides the fact that they are absolutely delicious, there also the most nutritionally dense berry on the planet.  I eat them every day, along with raw chocolate of course! Just yesterday, I was at the Paribas open tennis tournament with some co-workers down here in Palm Springs and was hitting a wall when I discovered a little bag of goji berries I my purse! Yum, there’s nothing better than good food when your really hot and hungry.

Did you know that Goji berries are the only food on the planet that contain the compound secretagogue, which have anti-inflammatory properties that stimulate the pituitary and pineal glands thus increasing the glandular production of human growth hormone, which actually decreases as we age.  Goji berries are a complete protein, are high in antioxidants, improve your vision, enhance our immune system and increase alkalinity.  They contain tremendous amounts of hydrogen, which is what is needed to create hydration, so snack on them before, during or after your workouts.  Another good one, (as if your not already convinced to log on to Jewelbars.com now and buy a box of Goji bars), research suggest they are great for digestion and can aid in recovery from digestive illnesses.  Several types of phytonutrients in the fruit enhance the ability of the liver to detox and they contain fatty acids that stimulate collagen production, and retain moisture resulting in younger looking skin.

I’ll leave you with a few final tid-bits: For a long time, Goji berries have been recommended for chronic conditions such as headaches, weak joints and legs, lower back problems, liver and kidney issues, hypertension, insomnia and impotence.

It’s proven that if you support the body in healing itself with a huge array of extraordinary nutrients you will feel better.  Personally when I have great health and energy, I am more passionate about everything in my life and everyone in my world benefits. So, if longevity, vitality and a youthful glow are your motivators, then Goji berries are the Superfood for you!

The many benefits of Coconut

Coconuts are one of the greatest gifts on our planet, in Sanskrit (the language of ancient India), the coconut tree is know as the tree that supplies all that is needed to live. Coconut’s and Love! I first fell in love at the age of 15 (or so I thought), and first discovered coconuts when I was 28 and on a 3-week trip to Brazil. I had 2 a day for almost the whole trip and lost 8 lbs. I had so much energy and fun with my new addiction and had no idea of the health benefits.
Coconut is one of the highest sources of electrolytes found in nature and it is nearly identical to human blood plasma. The coconut is a natural water filter that takes almost 9 months to filter each liter (quart) of water in the shell.

My favorite way to enjoy a coconut is to open it myself with a machete, drink the coconut water and scoop the meat out with a spoon. Another great idea is to put it in your sports water bottle and take a big swig every 15 minutes while you work out.   For Jewel Bar’s, I buy the low-temperature dried meat and scoop a couple delicious cups into the batch and into my morning smoothies!

Coconut oil is my skin food, my friends sometimes compliment my summer glow and I credit my daily application of coconut oil.  I use 50+ sunscreen during my out-door work outs, so I’m not that tan, I just have healthy radiant skin. Since the skin is our largest organ and definitely absorbs what we put on it; I figure it could use a little boost in the dry winters and hot summers.

Coconut improves digestion, your immune system, thyroid, nervous system and provides fast energy. Coconuts also contain healthy antiviral and antifungal saturated fatty acids that naturally help fight viruses and bacteria. They help regulate healthy hormone production, are naturally cooling to the body and best of all they naturally increase your metabolic rate leading to weight loss. So go ahead, have a Jewel Bar every day!!!

My Chocolate World

I am a healthy athletic woman who indulges in chocolate every day, raw superfood chocolate that is!  I put it in my Jewel bar’s, morning shake & consume a couple of my own little raw chocolate nugget creations.  I’ve been a chocolate addict probably since birth but was introduced to the health benefits of raw chocolate by David Wolfe, with his book “Naked Chocolate”, which I picked up at CafĂ© Gratitude here in the bay area a few years back.

Cacao contains the highest concentration of antioxidants of any food in the world and antioxidants protect us from age related health conditions and illness. It is alkaline, improves digestion, neutralizes free radicals and is a great source of magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, protein, fiber, and B vitamins. It’s the only plant that contains Anandamide, a canna cuboid endorphin the body naturally produces after exercise, which is why they call it the “Bliss chemical”. Raw chocolate improves blood circulation, lowers cholesterol, helps my endurance workouts and is an appetite suppressant as well.

What’s even more important than all the health benefits, that I could write about for two days, is how yummy it is. I love how it melts in your mouth, just as Hershey’s kisses did when I was a child.  I love the rich flavor of chocolate when I bite into a crunchy Jewel Bar square. I love how easily it digests giving me sustainable energy for hours.  I’ll still be eating chocolate and Jewel Bars hopefully until I’m 90, and with the way I consume super foods on a daily basis, I might even make it to 110.  Thank you Mother Nature for giving us chocolate, and the knowledge of how to prepare it while keeping all of its nutrients intact!

What is a Jewel Bar?

Well, to start with they are delicious, nutritionally dense, hand made, gluten and dairy free, organic and raw Nutrition squares.  I started this creation over 5 years ago when I started my flying career because it was challenging in some countries to find healthy food that I could eat. Hence the birth of Jewel Bar's, which by the way, is named after my favorite furry friend in the world, my black labrador retriever who's spirit still dashes in and out of my dreams all the time. (see photo below).  I have created many flavors over the years and am currently selling 3 delicious flavors: nut, chocolate and goji berry.  They each have a distinct flavor and spice but all contain Supperfood's that pack a punch of nutrition and energy into your day.  Some folks consume them as a meal replacement, I snack on at least one a day, kid's love them and we have many tri-athlete customers who count on Jewel bars to get them through or recover from the intense training.
I do have a web site, it's jewelbars.com if you want to check out some of these tasty nuggets! I live in Marin county and currently sell from my web site and a few local shops... more to come!
I hope you enjoy tuning into my post on everything from superfood nutrition to what inspires me in life!
